Consulting Powerpoint Template - Releasing 1.0
"High Impact Documents" Powerpoint template is now "Version 1" on 30th November 2024. It's tidied up and ready to ship.
I’m finally done with a “Version 1.0” Powerpoint template for High Impact Documents. These slides are for:
Consultants - very similar to McKinsey, BCG, Bain, the Big 4 or Big Tech consulting would use;
Managers - internal communication for medium and large companies; and
Making documents - not TedX presentations but proposals, business cases, project plans etc.
What does Version 1.0 mean? To me it means I have the basic slides in there and fairly common charts, dividers, title pages to help you get going. It’s free as in “free” as well as free from any constrained IP. However please consider:
Charts and Slides - I’ve drawn all the charts, scenarios and data are fictitious unless a source is noted on the slide;
Images - are generated from AI with licenses;
Icons - are from the Noun project and released under Creative Commons. I have included in the notes links to the each artist and the original icons; and
Place holder text - I like to use William Blake’s poem The Tyger instead of Lurum Ipsum. Mainly because I like it as a poem.
Version 1.0 done and delivered. Certainly not perfect but it’s 126 slides and a good start to anyone starting in management, or learning consulting or even starting their own consulting business.
The question that nobody asked is “What’s your favourite slide?” I do like my Plan on Page slides … and I do like a good Waterfall. These are the two I’d use a lot. Love a good Driver Tree.. but they only have impact in certain situations. If I had to really call it? Executive summary slides is where most people need help and my approach seems to work.
What’s next?
I’m not the fastest poster, but I have a few ideas for the future, I’d like to:
Set up a landing page for the Template so it’s always in one spot and make future changes there;
Create some tutorials on the anatomy of a slide;
Create tutorials on making killer slides for management and consulting;
Create tutorials on making impactful decks. How to make killer business cases, project overviews, proposals etc.
I have a few other ideas that could help. I’d love to hear peoples thoughts on:
How to write a CV that 2x your value;
How to write compelling bios and (your) performance reviews; and
Some of the steps to perform well and get promoted in a consulting firm.

I’ve hopefully simplified the download of the Powerpoint. It will be on the High Impact Documents Downloads landing page.

Hey Marc,
Awesome contribution with your template deck!
I’d be really interested in a tutorial on the anatomy of a slide. I often struggle to understand what "looks good" since I don’t naturally have an eye for design. If you could break down what makes a slide visually effective, that would be incredibly helpful. A follow-up tutorial on creating an impactful deck could build on that foundation.
Before that, though, I’d love to learn more about your thinking process and prework before even starting a presentation. How do you determine what’s important and what isn’t? Understanding your approach to structuring content before designing slides would be really insightful.
Regarding CVs, I know it’s tricky to account for country-specific nuances, but it would be valuable to learn about key principles, like highlighting proven successes—especially when they aren’t explicitly written in a work certificate/reference letter.
It would also be great to explore how employees can identify and showcase the valuable skills they’ve gained in their current roles. Additionally, guidance on what projects or work items they should seek out to strengthen their CVs would be extremely useful!
